              Study-related costs

When you start university, there's plenty to think about – doing well in your studies, making new friends and just generally navigating university life. The last thing you want to worry about is finances. We've brought together some of the other costs that you'll need to consider, so you can focus on the important things.

              Study materials

There may be a number of costs other than tuition fees that you need to factor in when you study at university. These will depend on your personal circumstances. For example, where you live, your mode of transport, hobbies and social activities.

              Textbooks

You may need to buy textbooks for some units, which you can buy at Deakin bookshops. A select number of textbooks are available second-hand at 65% of the recommended retail price.

              Course-specific costs

For some courses, like optometry and nursing, students will need to buy their own technical equipment. Your faculty can provide you with an estimate of these costs prior to enrolling.

              Computers

While there are many on-campus computer rooms, you’ll need your own computer too.

Deakin students may be eligible for educational discounts offered by hardware and software retailers such as Apple or Lenovo. Check with the relevant retailer to take advantage of these deals.

              Work placements

There might be some costs involved in work placements. These could include accommodation, travel and equipment.
